Argentan has been carrying out a program for several years called “Action Cœur de Ville”, in order to requalify and revitalize its city center.

This program aims to provide qualitative and quantitative elements to plan 4 actions to do in priority. Among them, the creation of a multimodal travel plan for the city center of Argentan.

CeRyX Trafic System helped th community to carry out this action.

Understanding needs & issues

A diagnosis was co-constructed with the actors of the territory, through a consultation workshop with the inhabitants. This consultation permits to scan all the key points, to establish proposals : a city center reserved for pedestrians, a detour road for the vehicles to access bigger traffic lanes, pointing cars towards parking…

This Diagnosis allowed to define and build a proposal framework, with the bases of a scheme, the primary actions to do and an ambitious scheme based on the previous bases and completed with the mid-term/long term objectives for the urban design.

The aims of these schemes are to balance the share of public space, between the different modes of transport. We proposed the creation of a pedestrian-priority zone, a limited 30km/h zone, and a modification of the traffic plan, in order to force the motorised vehicules in the city center of the town.

These proposals aren’t aimed at suppressing the car into the city center, but to better guide them : The traffic plan has been modify to optimize the car park research, without crossing the city center, where all the shops are.
